July 2010 Tips and Recipe

Keeping Your Cool

Summer has kicked in and it's getting hot out there. Now's the time to keep your cool by staying cool. This month's ezine is dedicated to staying healthy and cool during the summer heat.

Weight Loss Tip

Cool Down with a Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way to get in a healthy (and cool) refreshment. With tons of recipes and a variety of fresh fruits available, smoothies are a perfect way to feel like you are “cheating” without all the added sugars and calories of a milkshake or ice cream.

Use fruits that give added health benefits like bananas which are good for your heart and nervous system, kidneys and bones and are a great source of potassium. Try an apple smoothie to help prevent certain cancers, helps with asthma and lowers cholesterol. Perhaps a fruit smoothie high in antioxidants is what you are craving for lots of health benefits.

Just grab the blender, mix your favorite fruits into your favorite smoothie recipe and drink healthy to stay cool this summer.

Another way to stay cool and healthy is to drink your water. Staying hydrated this time of year is critical for your health but it can also promote weight loss.

Exercise Tip

Jump In to Cool Off

The heat and humidity are at an all time high in many areas, causing us to run for cover in an air conditioned room. Unfortunately this can put a damper on our exercise routine. If you are wanting some outdoor activities but just can't beat the heat, try jumping in the water to keep your cool.

Water aerobics are a great way to stay cool and get your workout. With the resistance of the water you are not only getting your heart pumping (and burning calories) you are getting in a great strength training exercise. It's like getting two workouts for the price of one.
